First blog post in a long time. We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes on our latest project, but no details for public release at the moment.

In the meantime, I’d just like to mention an e-book I’ve been reading called Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. It’s a work of fan fiction, lengthy but not yet finished, by author and AI researcher Eliezer Yudkowsky. If you like Harry Potter and you like science, then I think you’ll really like this book.

The book is based in a slightly alternate universe where Harry’s Aunt Petunia married a book loving scientist instead of Vernon Dursley. Harry is a child prodigy and has been home schooled, and turns the wizarding world on its head as he brings rigorous thinking and questioning to the crazy world that JK Rowling created. I haven’t read all the chapters yet, so I am not sure how it will all turn out, but I’m certainly enjoying it so far. I’m also learning a lot and perhaps even changing the way I think, as Yudkowsky has cleverly scattered many scientific concepts throughout the book. I’d like to write a lot more about it, but won’t because I don’t want to spoil the many twists and turns that the book contains.
